Authorities at the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark have overseen the installation of the one of the largest mobile harbour cranes in the world.
The new Liebherr LHM 800 features a total height of 48 metres and a boom length of 66 metres and a lifting capacity of 308 tonnes.
The port cited developments in the offshore industry as a driving factor for the new crane.
“We need to be able to handle more and more large cargo in the future, and therefore we need to rearm. I am also pleased with the fact that only few ports in the world have a similar crane because it shows that Port Esbjerg is a heavyweight internationally,” Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO of Esbjerg Havn, said.
With an additional Liebherr mobile harbor crane the port can now complete tandem lifts of up to 448 tonnes tandem and expects to see demand increasing for “larger and larger” components for the offshore wind turbines in the North Sea.
