Netherlands infrastructure project to cost close to US$1 billion

IXAS Zuid-Oost, a consortium consisting of Ballast Nedam, Heijmans and U.S.-based Fluor, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the A9 motorway in the Netherlands.

The fourth member of the consortium, 3i Infrastructure, is an investment company headquartered in the U.K. All four members will own an equal share of A9 Gaasperdammerweg public-private-partnership project.

The A9 Gaasperdammerweg work consists of the reconstruction and expansion of the A9 motorway between the junctions of Holendrecht and Diemen near Amsterdam in the region of Amsterdam, including the bridge over the river Gaasp, the road surface and the construction of a 3-kilometer tunnel.

The project is valued at US$935 million, Netherlands-based Ballast Nedam said in a statement. The A9 Gaasperdammerweg project is the third section of the Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere road expansion.
