Shanghai is 2014's world top box port with 35 million TEU

SHANGHAI has retained its crown for the fifth straight year as the world's busiest container port, overtaking Singapore, after handling 35.29 million TEU in 2014, an increase of 4.5 per cent, according to data from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

SIPG said December's volumes came in at 2.9 million TEU, up 1.4 per cent year on year. Shanghai's closest rival, Singapore, handled 30.96 million TEU in the first 11 months of 2014.
