Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has completed a 10,000-ton heavy-lift vessel , the Hyundai-10000, at its shipyard in Yeongam, South Korea, for affiliate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). The new crane vessel will be used by affiliate Hyundai Heavy Industries for installing offshore oil & gas modules.

With the addition of the vessel, HHI’s maximum lifting capacity per module will increase more than six-fold from 1,200 tons to 8,000 tons. This means HHI can install bigger modularized blocks built on-ground onto offshore facilities and minimize the potential risks of working at height, HHI said in a statement.

After a series of final tests, the Hyundai-10000 will join HHI’s existing offshore facility-building infrastructure in Ulsan in March and begin operation in April. It is already scheduled for work on 19 offshore projects, including Q204 FPSO for BP.

The vessel is equipped with eight double truss jib cranes, measuring 182 meters long, 70 meters wide and 11 meters high.
