Euro Exim Delivers Transmission Tower from India to Nigeria

We are pleased to highlight another successful project cargo operation completed by our member, EURO EXIM, supporting the power utility and electrical infrastructure industry.

EURO EXIM successfully managed the transportation of a Transmission Tower from Kolkata, India, to Onne, Nigeria, providing a fully coordinated end-to-end logistics solution while navigating oversized cargo requirements, port restrictions, and vessel schedule changes.

End-to-End Coordination

Throughout the operation, EURO EXIM maintained close coordination with the shipper at origin to ensure cargo readiness and timely handover to the shipping line.

Booking and scheduling were aligned with the carrier, while customs clearance, documentation control, and compliance with port timelines were carefully managed to support the smooth flow of the shipment.

Overcoming Operational Challenges at Kolkata Port

One of the key challenges was the draft restriction at Kolkata Port, which resulted in the liner releasing carts for container gate-in and gate pass issuance on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis.

To facilitate early container gate-in, EURO EXIM maintained continuous follow-up with the shipper to obtain the necessary survey report, shipping instructions, VGM confirmation, and customs-filed documents within the required timeframe.

An additional challenge arose when the initial survey report classified the cargo as over-height only, although the cargo exceeded permissible dimensions in both width and height. Further clarification and coordination were therefore required to obtain the correct OOG classification and necessary carrier approvals.

The operation also faced a vessel berthing delay, which postponed the originally scheduled sailing and required the shipment to be rescheduled.

Successful Execution Despite Schedule Changes

Through timely coordination and proactive follow-up, EURO EXIM facilitated container gate-in despite the FIFO restrictions at Kolkata Port and successfully secured the revised carrier approvals required for the oversized cargo.

Despite the vessel berthing delay, the shipment was effectively rescheduled while maintaining cargo integrity throughout the process.

The project once again highlights the importance of accurate documentation, flexible planning, proactive stakeholder communication, and customer-oriented operations when managing complex OOG shipments.
