Racing Cargo Delivers Power Transmission Project in Mexico

Racing Cargo Delivers Power Transmission Project in Mexico

We are pleased to highlight a complex large-scale project successfully managed by our member, Racing Cargo, involving the import and inland delivery of 45 steel transmission towers from China to Monterrey, Mexico.

The operation covered more than 1,499 metric tons of cargo, transported across two breakbulk vessels, supporting a major energy and power transmission project in Mexico.

Project Overview

Cargo: Steel transmission towers (disassembled with accessories)
Industry: Energy / Power Transmission
Total Weight: 1,499+ metric tons
Configuration: 45 towers across 2 breakbulk vessels
Route: China → Altamira, Mexico → Monterrey, Mexico

What initially appeared to be a standard import operation quickly evolved into a highly demanding project due to regulatory gaps, documentation inconsistencies, and strict delivery deadlines.

Operational Challenges

Before vessel arrival, required permits from Mexico’s Secretaría de Economía had not yet been processed, placing the project at immediate risk. Additional complications included:

• Inconsistent packing lists and incomplete documentation
• Potential permit rejections and extended approval timelines
• Risks affecting customs clearance, discharge operations, and inland transport
• Pressure from delivery deadlines and possible penalties

As the project progressed, the complexity increased further with additional permit requirements, multi-stage customs processes, and cargo approaching abandonment status while coordinating more than 100 inland transport units under tight schedules.

Execution & Recovery Strategy

To regain operational control, Racing Cargo implemented a structured recovery strategy:

• Rebuilding and validating packing lists through physical cargo verification
• Maintaining real-time visibility at port through on-site inspectors and marine surveyors
• Accelerating permit approvals through close coordination with authorities and customs brokers
• Preparing customs clearance based on individual tower serial numbers and corresponding components
• Coordinating over 100 trucks with route validation, pre-loading plans, and continuous follow-up

The inland operation dispatched up to 12 truck units per day, ensuring cargo continuity while maintaining compliance and shipment visibility throughout the process.

From Critical Risk to Successful Delivery

Despite regulatory setbacks, documentation gaps, and operational pressure, the project was completed successfully, with all cargo delivered safely and without damage.

This operation reflects Racing Cargo’s commitment to transparency, proactive communication, and operational control throughout every stage of complex project logistics. By adapting quickly and maintaining close coordination with all stakeholders, the team ensured the continuity of the client’s operations under highly demanding conditions.

We congratulate our member for this impressive execution and their continued contribution to excellence within the global project cargo industry.
